“The main malady of our economy is that we do not bring the major section of our economy, the industry, to an appropriate level,” such an opinion was expressed today by the Chairman of the Union of Native Producers of Armenia, Vazgen Safaryan, in an interview with us. In his words, the government of Armenia is thinking over the years where to find money to cover the wages of the “Nairit” plant employees, but it is not thinking of reopening of the “Nairit” plant. “The start should be from here rather than thinking of something else.”
To the observation of Aravot.am that according to the World Bank (WB) Audit, reopening of the “Nairit” plant is unreasonable, Mr. Safaryan said, “I think that the World Bank has made a non-objective decision on the “Nairit”. The WB is not interested in “Nairit” plant to work. Why? Because the United States, Japan, Germany and France are the donors of the World Bank. These countries have rubber-producing plants and, naturally, they would not want another one to be their competitor. “Nairit” plant, which also produces a chloroprene rubber. So, to think that the World Bank with its functions will contribute to the development of Armenia’s economy, I am not tended to think so. With its products, “Nairit” can saffice the 5% of the overall market.”
