“The decision was made by the President of Armenia as Commander-in-Chief. It was a pretty much effective decision in terms of today’s management efficiency of our armed forces,” so responded Chairman of the Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Koryun Nahapetyan, in response to the question whether Movses Hakobyan’s appointment as a Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia was justified.
To the observation of Aravot.am that on the one hand we announce that NKR and Armenia are independent countries, and on the other hand, we apply for such controversial movements with such appointment, so whether is appointment does not cause concerns in terms of the foreign policy, Mr. Nahapetyan responded, “I do not think there would be any problems, and this concern cannot be considered substantiated. We have had many such cases that different NKR officials were appointed and this is not the first case.”
To our question whether he sees Movses Hakobyan in the post of the Defense Minister of Armenia, Mr. Nahapetyan replied, “As a Chairman of the Committee I say that the Defense Minister of Armenia, Seyran Ohanyan, exercises his responsibilities perfectly and any of such talks at the moment is inappropriate.” To the question of whether this kind of replacement was right in time in the event when a new tension is possible on the border in August, Mr. Nahapetyan replied, “This replacement cannot negatively affect the work efficiency of the NKR Armed Forces.” Mr. Nahapetyan did not exclude the possibility of border tension, too.
