The statement voiced by Armenia at the PACE about occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh, in recent days, have caused serious concerns in the political arena of Armenia. “Aravot” was curious to learn from the Head of the RA NA PAP faction, a member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, Naira Zohrabyan, whether this was not the flaw of the Armenian delegation. She mentioned that a misunderstanding and disinformation have been slipped in the press about on this issue. Ms. Zohrabyan explained that the PACE has discussed the report of “The activities of democratic institutions in Azerbaijan”, which contains a reference to another report entitled “Increase in violence in Nagorno-Karabakh and Other Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan”.
Ms. Zohrabyan also informed that the works on the preparation of this report have been suspended as it has no rapporteur. Note that the delegate from England, Robert Walter, was nominated as a rapporteur, but Ms. Zohrabyan informed that so far he is deprived of his mandate in the UK, hence, only if he becomes a lord, in that case, he can re-assume the role of the rapporteur, which is less likely. Naira Zohrabyan informed that even if a rapporteur is nominated, then we can talk about the final version of the report only 1-1.5 years later. Back to the criticisms, Ms. Zohrabyan concluded, “If anyone in the Parliament is able to work in Strasbourg, whose political elite is bought by Azerbaijan, I am ready to cede my PAP quota to him.”
