Sometimes, rumors are spread and the names of this-or-that oligarch are voiced who are willing to buy the ENA and leave the electricity tariff unchanged.
Aravot.am asked the leader of the “Republic” party, Aram Sargsyan, visiting Baghramyan Street, to what extent this option is acceptable. He answered, “The Russian authorities perhaps have tried to find out from their Bibins about what’s going on in Armenia. What should these Bibins present? They should tell that Armenians are a thief-gang nation, that the authorities are corrupt, starting from the Prime Minister. This is not too far away that they would believe because they know how people become prime minister or president in this country. Consequently, this particularly is of no value for Inter RAO UES, something that brings a 2-3%, they may think that it would be better if we give up. But if they give up, so what we should do for the Americans or the French and the Europeans not to buy it, in this case, there are oligarchs in Russia who have become billionaires with Russian money, are under their control, they are calling and saying, you should buy. This mentality is there. After all, taking from here and giving to an Armenian oligarch in Russia, the owner is not changed, it still belongs to Russia.”
According to Aram Sargsyan, the fact that “No to Plunder” movement has no leaders, it has many advantages, but it also has many disadvantages. “Rally is a process, which should be organized, it also has its own culture. For me, the rally is also an art. There are a lot of smart guys here, but they have the problem to reaching their views to the destination. This should obtain a political content to lead to changing. Otherwise, the authorities also have their youth there who say, we have only one demand from our elected President Serzh Sargsyan, let him reduce the electricity tariff. Well, if the guys demand only this, here, I have nothing to say. But I know that these guys have other recommendations, too. They can shape these recommendations, make them audible during the rally, and the case will move forward.”
In Aram Sargsyan’s words, unfortunately, only the capital takes part in the rally. “I look at the rally, only Yerevan is here, it is very nice. But, I am a village boy, and it would be nice to see the village guys here too, with their red cheeks, their persistence and education. The village should also come to Yerevan.” To our question of whether Serzh Sargsyan can disperse the rally with traditional methods, Aram Sargsyan replied, “If you are doing an action against the government, you should put yourself in the place of the government. Let’s say, if I were Serzh Sargsyan, what decision I should take. Now, these people are saying, “Hurry up, water us to come back tomorrow. Baghramyan Street has been occupied, there is no one to be afraid to be watered, and the police cannot constantly water and detain. Therefore, there should be an interim solution.”
