“The words that the Armenian court will administer the trial, hence, we assume that, yes, Permyakov should be transferred to Armenia, because our legislation does not have the concept of a trial in absentia. We do not have more information than this,” said the successor of the aggrieved by the Avetisyan family, Yervand Varosyan, referring to the information about the handover of the accused Valery Permyakov to the Armenian side. As for the transfer of the case to the Armenian side, he said that he prefers to be a little patient until the appropriate decisions are made. “In other words, when the criminal case is transferred to the Investigative Committee of Armenia, naturally, there should be a decision to join the criminal cases, which they will keep us informed. I would like to wait and get familiar with the content of this decision.”
Yervand Varosyan said that now there is an unprecedented situation for this case. “The murder case should be in the Armenian proceedings, it was clear from the onset, and it was not a subject for discussion. By the agreement, the investigation should be carried out by the Investigative Committee of Armenia. The entire problem arose from the moment when Permyakov appeared under Russia’s jurisdiction, which is a situation not regulated by the agreement. The problem arose here and not in the fact that Armenia should investigate the case, it was clear from the very first day. If Permyakov had not appeared under Russian jurisdiction on that day, we would not discuss this issue today, more than six months later after the incident.” To the question of whether the Russian side has already received the answers to its interested questions, therefore, it has decided to handover Permyakov to the Armenian side, the lawyer replied, “Sooner or later, we will have the opportunity to become familiar with the materials investigated by the Russian side, which will be very interesting to know what they have revealed, in what directions the investigation was conducted and what is disclosed. At that time, we will have the answers to the questions.”
