The Cafesjian Center for the Arts announces the opening of the exhibition of the renowned Canadian-based Armenian artist, a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, Arto Tchakmakchian. The artist in also in Yerevan. Today, in the interview with Aravot.am, he said that this is his first exhibition in independent Armenia where his works of 60-70-ies are on display. The exhibition entitled “Arto Tchakmakchian: Rebirth” houses about ten sculptures of the great artist and more than twenty graphic works, which greatly cover the works depicting St. Gregory of Narek and Komitas. He says that every movement in Armenia is mirrored by Komitas. “I have never forced me to sculpture Komitas, all of them are simply born in me. Komitas shows our spiritual world. Narekasti is a character of thinking for me, whom I love very much. When I decided to sculpture him, I absolutely did not try using the photo. I loved his personality for he is a philosopher and a thinker. I transformed this thinking into this statue and it became meaningful. Komitas and Narekasti are the whole Armenia,” he said. Tchakmakchian noticed that people perceived his art quite fundamentally, and this makes him very happy. “Because it is deeply Armenian,” he says. The master informs that the exhibition covers the works in Armenia, but he is eager to bring in his other works, too, and donate to his homeland. In addition, the exhibition is open until August 30. And in the last week, August 23-30, the entry will be free.
