Boris Navasardyan. “Setting up a Eurasia 24 TV company was a Soviet idea

Boris Navasardyan opines that artificially born media usually fail to fulfill the mission for which they are established.

Leonid Slutsky, the Head of the State Duma Committee for CIS, Eurasian Integration and Compatriots, announced at the first session of EaEU youth leaders that the EaEU countries need a common information umbrella. He also reminded that the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has offered to set up a “Eurasia 24” news channel.

Aravot.am talked on this with the Chairman of the Yerevan Press Club, Boris Navasardyan. In his opinion, to set up relations with the EaEU member countries, the available resources are sufficient. He believes that the TV channel will not have a major impact in the information market. “This is a long-ago speculated subject since it is considered that the Eurasian Economic Union needs a promotional support and informational support. And having a TV station that works for the member countries, he considers it important. But this in my opinion is the Soviet idea as artificially born media usually fail to fulfill the mission for which they are established,” he said.

Boris Navasardyan considers the setting up of the TV channel realistic. “Today, we need to prove the ideologists of the Eurasian Economic Union that they are serious about building the Union, and they will make demonstrative steps in different directions for this project.”
