Artistic Director of Karin Folk Dance Ensemble, Gagik Ginosyan, has testified upon two cases in Baghramyan Avenue on June 23. One as witnesses, and the other as a victim. He was detained that day were from the Nairi cinema house. “I saw how they were trying to detain the soloist of the Opera Orchestra by twisting his hands very rudely, on hearing voices, I crossed the street and asked to temper their conduct. In response, I was detained too,” said Gagik Ginosyan.
In his words, when he was detained the police had not explained why and where he is taken and instead of the defined three hours he was kept in custody for eleven hours. “And not only me. Without the sanction and explanation, I was kept for eleven hours, afterwards I was illegally taken to the drug abuse clinic for examination and I was undergone a medical examinations to determine whether I had used drugs or not. We do not know the answer to it either.” He said that he does not have any information about the case after the testimony. In response to our question of whether he is going to be consistent with a claim to punish the police for illegal actions, he said, “Well, the fact that I have gone to the police and gave a testimony, it already says something, I have submitted by claim and have stated it in my testimony that I am not saying it just for information, but I demand that the perpetrators be punished to avoid such situations happen again.”
To our question about what he thinks whether as a result of the investigation, it will be proved that the police were there on that day and had carried out illegal actions, he said, “I think, however, that they should do something, after all, they should present something to the public about what had happened that day. If they prove that the police were legitimate to act accordingly, they should point out the perpetrators amongst the protesters, if there were not legitimate, then they need to show who have abused their powers. This is a matter of public sonority.”
