As we have informed, the “Shirak” football club had sued the Swedish football club “AIK” for declaring its players thieves of towels. The point is that prior to beginning of the match of the Europa League second qualifying round between the Gyumri “Shirak” football club and the Swedish “AIK” held in the Swedish capital Stockholm, the “AIK” administrator Åke Andersson informed the journalists that the Shirak players stole 17 towels from the guests’ dressing room. The Swedish press was flooded by this rumor, then, however, the same administrator denied his statement saying that he is not sure that the towels were taken by the “Shirak” football players. After filing a lawsuit to the Swedish court by the “Shirak” football club against “AIK”, the Swedish football team has organized an online sale of towels on its website with the badge of its club, almost half a price. The towels costing 249 kronor are sold for 149 kronor.
We learn about this from the Swedish football club’s official website. They intend to transfer the amount incurred from the sale of the towels to Shirak to pay off the fine imposed for defamation. “AIK” has asked its fans to help selling the towels, as it is possible that their administrator Anderson would have problems with the law and the court would compel him to pay a big sum for defamation. “Shirak” football club spokeswoman Anna Tadevosyan told to Aravot.am, “We do not want to express an opinion about their actions, we just want them to know that if we are blamed or discredited with having no grounds for it, then they must be punished.”
In the interview with the Swedish sport website, “Shirak” football club’s attorney, Mark Safaryan, in response to the question that the Swedish AIK is selling towels to support administrator Åke Andersson to cover any expenses related to the court trial, said, “This is unexpected and ridiculous, a while ago I was speaking on this with the owner of the “Shirak” football club, Arman Sahakyan, and we laughed. I think that money will teach Åke Andersson what is necessary to him.” The lawyer also noted that even if the prosecutor is not consistent, they will apply to the so-called private prosecution for help. He also said that “Shirak” has big financial capacities to go to the end as it is the reputation of the club here while “AIK” has not even apologized. “If Åke Andersson or his club were to understand their mistake, we would not go deeper,” said Mark Safaryan. Note that the Swedish court has declared even a 20 thousand dollars fine for defamation.
