The expert about Hovik Abrahamyan-Irakli Gharbashvili relationship

Expert on Georgian Affairs, Johnny Melikyan, considers RA Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan’s recent working visit to Georgia quite remarkable, especially after the visit of the Speaker of non-recognized Republic of South Ossetia a few month ago.

Note that the NA Speaker Galust Sahakyan met with Anatoly Bibilov, which can develop into a scandal in the relations between Armenia and Georgia. The situation was saved by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, who under his initiative had a telephone conversation with Georgian counterpart Irakli Garibashvili. As reported by Georgia’s government official website, Abrahamyan has reaffirmed his support to Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, emphasizing Armenia’s friendly and good-neighborly relations with Tbilisi.

Later on, the RA Prime Minister’s visit to Adjara and walking with Garibashvili across Batumi, according to the expert, is one more affirmation that official Yerevan has not reviewed its relations with Tbilisi.

Generally, as estimated by the expert, such a relationship is established between the Prime Ministers of Armenia and Georgia, which is mutually acceptable and beneficial. There are issues and problems that they are ready to solve. The expert associates this with Hovik Abrahamyan’s participation in the upcoming opening ceremony of the European Youth Olympic Festival – 2015 in Tbilisi. Note that Azerbaijan participated at the level of the Speaker of the National Assembly. However, Armenia’s and Georgia’s Prime Ministers mutually warm attitude was quite obvious. The expert notices that in the history of newly independent Armenia, Armenian-Georgian relations have always been regulated by the highest level, between the presidents. But now, as Georgia now is a parliamentary country and the prime minister is the de facto leader of the country, Armenian-Georgian relations are developing quite successfully at the level of prime ministers.

Summing up the outcomes of the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Georgia, Johnny Melikyan is especially highlights the joint visit of the two countries’ Prime Ministers to Darial (Kazbek) and the reached agreement to extend the working hours of the checkpoint by 3 more hours. It will be open from 05:30 up to midnight, which will enable to avoid the queues and deliver the goods of flawlessly and in time.

“The priority in all of this is that the prime ministers of the two countries show that the third countries have no role playing in Armenian-Georgian relations. We do not have problems, there are some challenges, which are resolved over the time,” concluded our interlocutor.
