But let us see why our tourists prefer the flights from Tbilisi airport
Responding to the publication of Aravot.am dated August 4 entitled “Armenia’s sky will literally be open and the budget – empty”, in which we particularly addressed the flow of our tourists to Egypt, who, however, take the flights not from Armenia, but the Tbilisi airport thus enriching the budget of Georgia, the manager of the tickets department of “ALLTOURS” company, which is a tour operator in our country, Angelina Shahinyan, said that “ALLTOURS” is working in the Armenian market for the third season, and starting from this year, “Zvartnots” airport carries out the flights to Egypt.
According to our interlocutor, there is a demand also from Armenia. “Recently, a lot is talked that more citizens of Armenia organize their tours to abroad to Egypt, Greece and Bulgaria from Tbilisi, but let us stop particularly on Egypt as it is the main direction of our company. Being the branch of the Georgian company, it is already the 3rd season that we are working in the Armenian market. It should be noted that working in the Armenian market for two years, we had sent the citizens of Armenia to Egypt, Antalya and Greece from Tbilisi, but this year, we changed the tactics and taking the risk, opened a direct charter flights from Yerevan to Hurghada resort, Egypt. The flights were scheduled until the end of August, but after two flights, we decided to extend the deadline until the end of September. It is our company that is a tour operator, the remaining are tour agencies that are selling tour-packages to the tourists. Implementing flights to Egypt from Tbilisi and now from Yerevan, we are the vivid example that allows to say that the Armenian market is attractive and open.”
As the main reason for the flight from Tbilisi airport, we had stated the high prices of the tour-packages and the air tickets, which shows a significant difference in case of leaving from Armenia especially when you are travelling with your family on vacations. In this regard, Angelina Shahinyan responded, “Tourism is a very flexible sector of business. The cost of the tour package depends on the prices for the hotels and air tickets. Every tour organization is a private company, and it decides on the price of the air ticket in this or that direction, and only the healthy competition will contribute to the reduction of the ticket price. Like in the whole civilized world, if there is a demand, of course, every company wants to earn more, therefore, the ticket prices are high. If the situation of our citizens were so desperate and everyone were gone to fly from Tbilisi, I do not think that so many charter flights would survive long in our small country. Our market is currently open for the tour operators and airlines.”
