August 21,2015 15:28

To the question of Aravot.am that in the event of on-going difficult economic and geopolitical situation, when Russia’s economy is falling day by day and we all are witnessing it, when since Armenia’s accession to the EaEU no one has yet recorded the positive developments that were expected, so whether Armenia’s local authorities still continue the positive sentiments with regard to Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, Karine Minasyan, the member of the Eurasian Economic Commission, replied today, “We continue remaining pragmatic. And we must work to be able to use the opportunities, which, however, the EaEU creates, for our economic development.”

Mrs. Minasyan noted that after Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, the export of Armenia’s agricultural products has been increased and grows thanks to the fact that the procedures of export to the EaEU member countries are simplified. “Indeed, we still have work to do for creating better conditions. In particular, our government is now working on logistics to solve the road problems.”

In the sector of services, the differences in wages, according to Karine Minasyan, enables Armenia to be competitive in the EaEU market. While the decline in exports, she also associates it with the geopolitical and economic developments, the foreign currency fluctuations, which will still continue.

“Maybe the wording is not so good, but if Armenia were not a member of the EaEU, actually it could be a worse situation for us because our economy’s dependence on Russia’s economy is quite big, particularly in the export industry. In fact, we have a growth in export, on the account of the mining industry, which does not record a high added value,” said our interlocutor.
