Under the “Yerevan Perspectives” 16th International Music Festival, in September 3, Al. Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre will host a concert of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra headed by renowned Indian conductor Zubin Mehta. “I am honored to be in Armenia for the first time. I think for the orchestra, too. I have had a short contact with the Armenian community. I have Armenian acquaintances in Vienna. My father has studied at Ivan Ghalamyan in New York. He was speaking of his greatest teacher with love. In my opinion, Armenians are talented people”, said Zubin Mehta at the meeting with the journalists in Yerevan. As he says, being a conductor is a magic profession. “We do not touch anything, we do not play an instrument, we just coordinate a hundred playing musicians”, said the conductor.
Founding Director of the “Yerevan Perspectives” festival, also artistic director, Stephan Rostomyan, considers the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra’s and Zubin Mehta’s concert one more achievement that the festival managed to overcome. “It is unbelievable that one of the greatest conductors of the century, Zubin Mehta and, of course, one of the world’s finest orchestras – the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, are here”, said S. Rostomyan. To add that the works of R. Strauss, A. Schoenberg and P. I. Tchaikovsky will be performed at the concert.
