Why do nations fail?

September 08,2015 12:27

If you want to know to what extent the “regime” is, the so-called, in “panic”, you can follow how the pro-presidential politicians and media react to the interviews of the first or second presidents. If the reaction is severe and the reactions – numerous and harsh, then there is some panic. If these interviews do not generate a special interest within the mentioned circles as it is in this case, it means that worrying is not big.

Former presidents, no matter how different they are and how many disagreements they would have, they have some similarities. For example, in their interviews, they mention Daron Acemoğlu’s and James Robinson’s book “Why nations fail”, perhaps to show that during their power we were not “failed”, but now we are. It is normal, it is human. If someone tomorrow becomes an editor of the “Aravot” newspaper, then it is very likely that after several years of silence, I will also begin giving interviews to remind what a good manager I was and blow the newspaper was flourishing during my skilled leadership.

Anyway, I tend to seek the healthy, positive and rational grain in people’s behavior and words. Especially, when it comes to the people who had or have the honor to rule my country. Finding fault with, attacking, “reminding of the sins” is there, and a large part of the media will do it better than I will. Of course, restrained criticism is necessary, but it is also necessary to find constructive ideas.

In particular, in a recent interview with “Liberty” radio station, second President Robert Kocharyan noted that to correct the situation in Armenia, it is necessary to have “a standard package of decisions, which very often require reaching thru the non-standard methods for Armenia”. It is hard not to agree with this idea.

Indeed, it is the story of “standard methods” over the 25 years of independent Armenia. The “standard” lies in the fact that it is possible to achieve certain results thru impertinence, stubbornness, cynicism and violence. The authors of this “standard” are of course the authorities, but since from the perspective of a “primitive consciousness” it is an “effective way”, such mindset has become the property of psychology by broad masses. Those who are guided by different values, they are either weak-willed or aimless dreamers or just pretend.

Maybe because of this very mindset, the nations and the states fail.
