Vahram Atanesyan. “This, gentlemen and friends, is a W-A-R.”

September 08,2015 16:35

“Why does the rival shoot? I am surprised that people are surprised and try finding explanations. Look, gentlemen and friends, don’t you know that on the night of the News Year, the Azerbaijani Defense Minister had gone down to the trenches and commanded the soldiers to act every minute in a way that the “native land burns under the feet of the occupants.” This, gentlemen and friends, is a W-A-R. A la guerre comme à la guerre (All is fair in war). And the rival’s behavior as of today is not given to any explanation and will not be given tomorrow”, said the former NKR NA Foreign Relations Chairman Vahram Atanesyan in the interview with Aravot.am, referring to the escalated situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani and Nagorno-Karabakh-Azerbaijani borders continued for a long time.

Our interlocutor is surprised generally, what good is it to think over the objective the rival pursues when the fact is available: peaceful villages are shelled, civilians are killed and wounded. “Any interpretation of the reality is a disgusting nonentity. If it seems to someone that anyone can hold the enemy back, then why shouldn’t we consider that someone can also incite provocation. But most realistic is the fact that the enemy is provoked from the beginning, at the outset. The only chance is to make an appropriate counterattack on the enemy, even an inadequate response. This is a war, and it is our choice. It is disgusting that we try alluding to others’ sympathy or antipathy for this choice. As much as we are fair when we look for allies, so as the enemy is fair when looking for its allies. In the war, you either win or lose. Or, accept the “terms of reconciliation” by foreign intervention. Our should make our choice.” Mr. Atanesyan reminds an aphorism: War is too serious a matter to entrust to military men. But, in our case, according to him, it is just the opposite, we should entrust only to the military men and the army information. “Do you know that when exercises are conducted, a National Assembly sitting is convened by force of law, the government officials are present at the session with a camouflage, a conditional evacuation is organized, an appropriate censorship to the conventional war situation should also be introduced, roughly speaking, the mouth of the media should be shut down as long as the exercises last so that no one would dare ridiculing the government officials by saying, they  have put on a camouflage, so what? We should not do this, we should not stipulate the “No” to the constitutional amendments by the semi-war situation and insatiably ridicule the nationwide exercises. We have a weak power, yes. In Israel, every family has gas masks and other means of individual protection by the number of the family member, the entire population of Israel, if the person is not old, sick or insane he is considered an Army reserve,” said our interlocutor in frustration, adding that during the exercise, a camouflage should also be put on the mass media leaders and the journalists and taken them to Koti, Voskepar and Vazashen villages of Tavush marz and make them stand in the trenches to understand the situation.

“You cannot spread out assumptions reaching stupidity, you cannot constantly find, I am sorry for my language, some “nauseous” analysts from Paris or, I do not know, what other  European capitals, to provoke them to obviously speak nonsense about Russian-Azerbaijani “deal” and us the “inevitable apocalypse” expecting us. The media should shut its doors to me, a resident of Artsakh, a lecturer from the European capitals, the media should not invite Azerbaijani Mubariz Ahmedoglu to “comment”, whom no one in his country considers him to be a serious man. The media should be next to the Prime Ministers of Armenia and Artsakh, in the Tavush trenches, to have the right to speak about the border escalation. The media should be able to remain silent if it is required by the interests of the homeland. The government should have the moral right to make the press silent for it is the country’s, the state’s government and it should be so. We all should be able not to attend the Yerkapah festivals of “reviews”. Because the Motherland is defended not by invited or uninvited “feasters” but our 18-20 years old children, who are keeping dogs and pigeons in the positions, raise grapes, build a praying place for themselves with their unskilled hands.”
