The 2 million dollar grant provided by Iran failed to serve its goal

September 14,2015 19:00

“Some state non-commercial organizations operating under the Ministry of Culture have received grants from Russia. This, if I’m not mistaken, is the Stanislavsky Theatre, a foundation, and the “Armenfilm” – said the Coordinator for “Informed citizens” NGO, Daniel Ioannisyan, during the seminar on “Foreign Policy and Media Coverage.”

He noted that the grants from Russia for the Culture of Armenia are a little more than the one provided by Georgia and are a few times less than the ones received from Ukraine. “These are the official data by the Ministry of Culture.”

DramashnorhAs reported by the “Union of Informed Citizens” NGO, the Government of Armenia mainly receives grants from the European Union and European banks, the US, the World Bank, Japan, the UN and the Lincy Foundation. Daniel Ioannisyan noted that China and the United States gave equipment to the Defense Ministry instead of grants. “In the agricultural sector, mainly equipment was provided by India, China, and Japan. It turns out that India has given a few hundred of tractors to us,” he said.

As for the energy sector, according to Ioannisyan, in 2009, Iran provided 2 million dollar grant to Meghri and Agarak for gasification. “Until now, neither Meghri nor Agarak is supplied with gas.” Daniel Ioannisyan has talked to Deputy Mayor of Meghri and learned about the grant provided by Iran. “He was very much surprised and said he has not heard that anyone wishes to supply their city with gas.”
