Vahram Poghosyan believes that the State Department’s statement was also a unique assessment regarding the democratic processes going on in Artsakh
“On September 13, the LGU elections held in Artsakh were at high level, most importantly, open, transparent, in compliance with the rules of democracy and under competitive conditions”, said member of “Free Homeland” Party, Vahram Poghosyan, in the interview with Aravot.am. According to him, the greatest achievement that has been registered in these elections is that there were almost no bills of complaint about the electoral frauds.
Referring to the State Department Spokesperson John Kirby’s statement that In the context of a comprehensive settlement on the conflict, the United States of America recognizes the role of the population in Nagorno-Karabakh in deciding their future, however, the United States does not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent sovereign state”, Vahram Poghosyan said, “Surely, we highly appreciate the statement by the representative of the US State Department, because as compared to the previous statements it is one step forward.
Secondly, we believe that the United States as an OSCE Minsk Group member should act carefully, but in any case, we believe that it was already one step forward, it can be said that it somewhere recognized the democratic process, and also it was a special evaluation connected with the democratic processes going on in Artsakh.” Vahram Poghosyan noted that “Free Homeland” party believes that over the time, much more clarity will be observed in the lines of the statement made by the State Department. “Democracy in today’s modern world has no alternative, and along with, I would like to mention the recent resolution of Azerbaijan adopted by the European Parliament regarding the pressures and similar other non-democratic special processes going on in this country. I think it is also a remarkable coincidence – the ongoing democratic processes and the processes going on in our neighbor, our opponent’s country. I am sure that, definitely, these two assessments will affect the negotiation process.”
