At the «Loft» self-development and entertainment Center, People’s Artist of Armenia Hrant Tokhatyan addressed the criticism voiced against him. He said he can accept and discuss the criticisms that refer to his person or to some civic stance. “The criticism that refers to my specialty, I do not accept, because there is no one who can equally criticize with me. I do not conceal that I represent a commercial theater. Yes, the actor must live well and be well fed rather than to make both ends meet. The students at the Institutes are taught that the artist should live poor, can you tell me why? … The artist can live well and build a business. I am building a theater, I will open a school and convey the children what I have adopted,” he said.
Tokhatyan noted that he will bring all this to live without “betraying” the stage because the stage is like a woman. “On the stage, you can also perform such activities that everything will be good and you will never think of having a pie-making business from the side. Even if I die, I will leave Yerevan, I love my city. While, the anthropoids are doing so that we do not love it.” The actor said, “If today’s young people, whose eyes show “protest”, begins the day with a smile, ten years from now, we would have such a country that everyone will say, ah …”. In the end f the meeting, responding to the remark of a Diaspora Armenian young man, Hrant Tokhatyan said, “I want to be an Armenia a kef rather than a fight for survival.”
