Gurgen Yeghiazaryan draws the newly appoint minister’s attention to the problem of penitentiaries
On the day since Arpine Hovhannisyan is appointed Minister of Justice, various stories are circulating around her related to her friendly connections and personnel-related massacre. Former deputy head of the National Security Service, also a political activist, Gurgen Yeghiazaryan assured that these rumors are not accidental, the Ministry staff is scheming against Arpine. “This is spread by those who are sitting at the Ministry of Justice robbing the inmates. Today, an entire robbery is carried out in penitentiaries. People want to remain in their positions. Her drastic style will be tragic for those who have nested at the Ministry of Justice. In order to retain their seats and clung like a leech from penitentiaries, this campaign began with their motion. They have in mind that the justice minister is always forced to defend his/her person from silly stories and has no time to address their work.”
Gurgen Yeghiazaryan noted that the inmates who are released from prison, there can be no word about their being corrected because they are released with huge debts. “The thief will steal again, the drug addicts will have to deal with a drug to repay these debts. In addition to health in prisons, people are also losing their apartments.”

Gurgen Yeghiazaryan even published figures on how much money is collected in the penitentiaries. “Some people make millions of dollars at the expense of the prisoners. There are jailers in the prisons, who are attributed to the rights of the first figure. According to my sources, any jailer is paid 100 dollars per month. The stanchion of humiliating detainees, robbing them and depriving of dignity are – corrupt administration; the so-called “jailers” appointed by them; bringing in food, hygiene products, alcohol and drug into the prison; separate money is seized from the prisoners for cell phones, medications and so on; use of underground world concepts and thus seizing sums for the “wrong doing”; payments for the “privileges” of the detainee; provision of a good-condition cell where the beds are in accordance with the number of prisoners; early release; various other extortion, such as concealment of crimes in the detention facility, violations not to be recorded in the personal case. If we multiply all this by the number of detainees, we will receive the amount that is robbed from them every day.”
According to Gurgen Yeghiazaryan, Arpine Hovhannisyan has a lot to do to combat this. “Now, a person has come with absolutely clean background and these money-eaters are afraid that Arpine’s hand will reach them too. To break the working pace of the Minister, campaigns are organized against her, starting from short skirts and ending with boring gossips. I congratulate that Armenia had a minister worth of the Guinness Book of Records. It happens rarely when the beauty of a woman is combined with the intellectual. I mean her speeches in Europe, overseas and the behavior in the Parliament. The Minister has a major task to do for enforcement of the law for these unfortunates so that the name of the Ministry will comply with the reality. Today, furious and vindictive thirst filled people are released from the prison who have the problem to paying off the accumulated debts. Consequently, the public should expect a new wave of crimes. All of this should be prevent by the newly appointed minister.”
