Argishti Kiviryan. The Russian side is not capable of defend Armenia

October 13,2015 14:34

Arghishti Kiviryan believes that the Armenian-Turkish border is in the state of vulnerability.

The Head of the General Department of the Civil Aviation, Artyom Movsisyan, announced that on October 6 and 7, the Turkish military helicopters were noticed in the air for 2-4 minutes in the section of Baghramyan, Armavir region. According to him, Armenia’s Civil Aviation Department had tried to find out from the Turkish side what helicopters they were and for what purpose they have crossed the border.

We learn from the interview that in response to the inquiry, the Ankara dispatcher claimed that the military helicopters have crossed the border due to bad weather. The RA Civil Aviation Department, according to the head to this institution, has not carried out punitive actions as it has neither the resources nor the power for it. Armenia’s Defense Ministry does not comment on the incident.

Analyst Argishti Kiviryan considers that this matter should be viewed from different directions. “The violations of the Armenian-Turkish border by Turkish helicopters on March 6 and 7 is actually an intrusion into the territory of Armenia, and the fact that no action has been taken in response to it obviously showed that the Armenian-Turkish border is in the state of vulnerability, a defenseless state. In particular, as we know, in 1992, according to the Armenian-Russian agreement, the inviolability of the Armenian-Russia border has attributed to Russia, and at least two times, the Turkish helicopters violated the border being in the airspace of Armenia for 2-4 minutes, and this is quite a long time for a helicopter. The matter obviously is not about accidental infringement, it is willful violation to be in the airspace of Armenia for 2-4 minutes, and neither the entire Armenian-Turkish border security assumed Russian side nor the air forces of the Armenian side have initiated any action in this regard. This shows the state of vulnerability of the border and shows that the actual myth that allegedly Russia ensures Armenia’s security is just a myth.”

Argishti Kiviryan emphasized that the statement in this respect was disseminated by the Head of the General Department of the Civil Aviation at the Government of Armenia, Artyom Movsisyan, which in his estimation is an absurd. “The point that relevant authorities of Armenia are silent proves that these authorities are not willing to take on any responsibility in any form. In other words, a question arises whether these are government authorities. In any country, if such an intrusion occurs, then promptly, at least, the foreign minister, defense minister or the very president and other senior officials are obligated to come up with relevant statement, with an appropriate interpretation and relevant warning, as well as noting why it was not prevented, why it has happened and what future action will be taken during the next intrusion. Actually, we see that 5-6 days elapsed, and no proper official of Armenia has made any statement on this case. This shows that these officials do not consider themselves as an official or question the autonomy of the Republic of Armenia. This is not a stance of a representative of the government. In these days, instead of the authorities of the Republic of Armenia came up with a statement and relevant actions, they are engaged in making a sad face during the Erebuni-Yerevan celebration.”

The analyst conditions the occurrence with the fact that Russia has violated the airspace of Turkey at the Syrian-Turkish border several times. “Since Armenia is viewed as an annexation to Russia, then Turkey has decided to give a response to the Russian side in this section. This area, which, unfortunately, is considered to be as a territory of Russian authorities, then in response to the actions of the Russian side, it has decided to respond here. Here is the most dangerous problem hidden, once Armenia is not consider to be an independent state but an annexation to Russia, Russia’s rivals in any part of the world will try to respond to Armenia in response to the any action of Russia, to respond in the territory of Armenia, to respond to the Armenian side in order to send some signals to Moscow, but in response, the Russian side was yet unable to prevent the access of these helicopter to Armenia’s airspace border, it is obvious that the Russian side is unable to defend Armenia. In fact, Armenia has suffered and will continue to suffer for the fact that it is viewed to the world as an annexation to Russia, this is a very dangerous phenomenon, and these processes are fraught with continuation in the future.”
