“Hey, do you know what a guy I am, in my country I have a pass-through in the “first circles”, and I am doing a business with the UN and UNESCO leaders, Barack Huseynovich personally gives me tasks, I am awarded medals in 17 countries. You cannot imagine where I have money and what businesses I am involved.” Can you imagine Bill Gates praising himself at the press conference? People would seriously be worried about the American billionaire’s mental health.
This is common for the Armenian-Russian reality. Certainly, some media will write about such businessman with a slight irony, but Ara Abrahamyan does not particularly deviate from the “norm”. During personal contacts, our Armenian oligarchs are talking exactly in the same way. Simply, they do not give press conferences in our country, they have so much wit and prudence. Our Moscow-based compatriot perhaps is very affected with implementing Vladimir Vladimirovich’s tasks, and as he is a person standing close to the “czar,” he feels additional dizziness with it. Hence comes not only “ordinary” oligarch’s but also scientist’s, philosopher’s and political activist’s ambitions.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the American “cowboy” discovering a gold mine and thus becoming rich would talk in such a manner, the Balzac “nouveau riche” bankers had such a mentality. But the entire problem is that we do not have additional 200 years to mature and reach the standards of the modern civilized world. The experience of others is necessary first of all to pass this path faster.
Which are these 200 years-old lessons (of course, not only for Ara Abrahamyan but for all of us)? I try to formulate briefly. If you have money, good for you, let the one become a thousand. But do not shake this money at every moment in front of everyone’s nose. Otherwise, an impression can be made that you are surprised at yourself. You have got medals, it is very good, then modestly be silent about it, do not attribute it to your extraordinary talent. You do charities, very well, do not shout about it, let your right-hand does not know what the left hand is doing. (The same Bill Gates, in fact, has spent 36 billion dollars on charity in his entire life, but I have never heard him talking about it). You have media and journalists working on you, it is also normal.

But do not compel “the people” to tell every minute thru this media, “Thank you great benefactor X-yan.” Ultimately, if you have money, it is not a must to open a political party or becomes a parliamentarian, it is also possible to live without the political ambitions. But if such ambitions, however, are displayed, no rush to make “political analysis”, to declare this rich an “Armenian Ivanishvili” and form a “non-governmental” Trio-Quartet with him. Or, a duet.
