Sit down at the computer sober

October 19,2015 13:30

“I drive better when drunk,” I often have heard this expression from the drivers. I never drive a car neither drunk nor sober, but as a passenger and pedestrian, I can argue that it’s a lie. Alcohol deadens vigilance and unnecessarily and unreasonably raises self-assessment, people start doing things that they would not normally do.

I believe the stories about the writers and artists creating when drunk. The great Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky could work in his adult years without a jar of vodka and a plate of small marinated mushroom on the piano. In this way he could compose music for 2-3 hours, then he was “switched off”. American writer Charles Bukowski, judging by his works, again was not indifferent from the Bacchus temptations. Recently, I learned from one of my Philippine colleagues that their wonderful writer Nick Joaquin was also a heavy drinker.

I cannot tell for sure what these preeminent artists were looking for in the alcohol. Professionally, I can judge only the “soberness level” of the comments of media, website, and Facebook. I think it is possible to determine with 99 percent accuracy whether the author of the text was sober or drunk when writing it. The most superficial signs are the unfinished sentences, the obscurity of the subject and the words, and the combination of transliteration and Mesrop-letters words. But there might also be “secondary signs” – putting dots after each sentence, abundant use of “however” and “by the way” words, when they fail to make a consistent and logical text, the dots and these words, is a “life preserver”.

Like the non-sober drivers, the drunk authors begin to “drive recklessly” writing such words and thoughts, which they would not allow them when they are sober. Checking the alcohol by miles and fining is impossible here. Simply, driven by the interests of the authors, I would suggest not to sit down at the computer when you are in the state of intoxication, mumbling speech is felt from the texts.

Of course, there are people who are always drunk, but not with alcohol but with hatred and evil. In this case, I cannot suggest anything.
