Today, National Children’s Library named after Khnko Aper presented the reader “Seven colors” collection of stories and German writer Manfred Theisen’s “Glass Aram” book. The “Seven colors” is a result of a creative competition.
Three years ago, Armenia became a member of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY). This year, the IBBY office organized “The Young Adults and the Environment”-titled contest-project aiming to develop the young adults literature in Armenia. “The writers attending the contest presented their children’s stories on the theme of teenager-social environment-ecology. The writers submitted a claim and foreign expert, Manfred Theisen conducted a workshop with them on how and what to write for the young adults”, said the co-chair of the Armenian Representation of the International Board on Books for Young People, Davit Matevosyan, in an interview with Aravot.am.
Thus, the book contains 7 short stories of the writers addressed to the young people. “The children’s literature is considered to be a profitable business in the whole world, while in Armenia, the development of the book publishing is different from the world approach,” noted Matevosyan, emphasizing that “The Seven Colors” is the first book in its kind and context, whose hero is a young man. German children’s writer Manfred Theisen is the author of the Armenian translation of the book “Glass Aram”.
IBBY Armenia representative, Shavarsh Karapetyan, in an interview with us, said that the book seems to summarize the impressions of Manfred Theisen’s visit to Armenia. “The story is about Aram. He thinks that he is made of a glass. It is a beautiful story about how Aram overcomes certain problems and falls in love for the first time. Interestingly, the German writer writes about Aram and Anahit, the Teryan Street, in short, about Armenia,” said Shavarsh. Incidentally, the book is dedicated to him. “Before leaving, Theisen said that he loved Armenia because he had a friend like me,” said Karapetyan honestly. In his words, the German children’s writer was impressed particularly by the hospitality of the people and the evenings of Yerevan.
