Set a great hope on the “king”

November 19,2015 12:13

Yesterday, in the morning, the next casualties of the “state’s supreme interest”, the people expelled from their homes, have decided to meet with the President of Armenian Serzh Sargsyan and personally express their complaint. They were joined by an elderly citizen who was complaining with the judicial system. His emotional “speech” was viewed on Aravot.am website yesterday by about 44 thousand users.

The video, apparently, impressed also our citizens and websites who have opposition views, who had “taken” this story to them. There is no problem, we present the event, and as to who propagates what, it is up to them.

The point that the citizen lodges a complaint to the President, it is normal. Such a scene can be met in any more or less developed country. I am interested here about another “beyond personal” issue, our citizens are assured that the regulator of all problems is the first figures of the country. I remember the 90s when people were going for a work by hanging on all possible and impossible places of the bus, a man standing at the bus-stop said champing, “Oh, Levon, what are you doing to these people?” In the summer of 1999, at the Children’s Railway Park, a grandpa was complaining that he is unable to pay for the carousel, but he was consoling himself, “that’s OK, soon Demirchyan will settle everything down.” A superhero will hit his fist on the table and everyone will feel satisfied and happy.

If a construction developer entering into a “share” with this or that official throws people out on the street under the name of “state need” (which takes place in 2000 and onwards), then people are seeking justice at the president. If the “Nairit” employees do not receive wages, then they complain to the head of the country. If the farmer’s harvested grapes are not accepted, then he intimidates to drive his truck not to the village mayor’s office or the Governor’s office, nor to the Ministry of Agriculture. But directly to Baghramyan-26. And after the constitutional amendments, he will probably drive to the government building.

Certainly, the judicial system is a separate subject, about which this elderly citizen was complaining. Judges are appointed by the president of the republic, hence, he formally has a reason to complain. We do not have an independent judicial system, such courts whose decisions inspire a faith to the citizens. We never had independent courts, before 1991 and after it. Simply, I do not think that the independence of our judiciary depends on who appoints them. It seems to me that even if elected they would be the same. Especially setting a great hope on any “king”, who would regulate this problem, simply makes no sense.

Incidentally, it is pretty cold at the Press building, the wind is blowing thru the holes in windows. Perhaps, I need to write an open letter to the President of Armenia.
