Pursuant to political analyst Sergey Minasyan, the terrorism in Paris will consolidate the West and Russia in the fight against the Islamic state (IS) group. “If not jointly, it will at least enable coordinated actions in the fight against the “Islamic state” group,” said the political analyst.
In his words, combating the Islamic state only in a military way is not possible. “The discontent element of Iraq’s Sunni minority and Syria’s Sunni majority are fighting on the side of the Islamic State group, some of them are former soldiers and generals of Saddam Hussein, who were in a better position during Saddam Hussein times, but after the American operations, the power in Iraq was handed over to Shi’ite majority, Sunnis complained about it and on its background, the religious matters increased. Why is the fight against IS not possible by military means? Because if the military pressure is increased, there will be terrorist actions, therefore, international political and economic involvement is necessary.”
Mr. Minasyan, referring on the establishment of air defense system (ADS) jointly between Armenia and Russia, said that this system was planned several years ago, and it actually operates. “The system transited into a new quality stage and is not due to recent events. This system will allow Armenia to protect the airspace effectively and upgrade own air defense measures.”
