Clash of views around “operation”

November 26,2015 11:35

Yesterday, early in the morning, the confiscation of a huge amount of weapons in one of the Nork-Marash private houses and the arrest of ten citizens related to the case gave rise to various interpretations.

First of all, let me respond to the dithyrambs addressed to the police and the National Security Service. They, it seems to me, are exaggerated. Everything, in my opinion, was done in an ostentatious manner and with certain violations of the presumption of innocence. Perhaps, disclosing Arthur Vardanyan’s name was justified. But showing the faces of the other “residents” of the house and voicing their names, moreover, allowing an unlimited number of journalists and citizens to the scene, was not so professional.

According to another viewpoint, the authorities had fabricated everything from beginning to end, had stored weapons and ammunition in different parts of the house in advance in order to carry out this operation. But this contradicts the video in the participation of Arthur Vardanyan, where he and several other young men were proud to be photographed with the guns in their hand.

The next hypothesis is as follows: the law enforcers probably had some substantiations for confiscating the weapons, but they were going to use all of it to oppress the opposition. Certainly, it is impossible to exclude this option completely. But let us state that pertaining to the specific case, the law enforcers have not officially circulated neither opposition party-, nor the “New Armenia”-, nor “Electric Yerevan”-related hypothesis. This is reported by some websites, as well as “New Armenia” issued a statement. Obviously, if something like October 27 has happened, the same oppositions would ask, “What were the law enforcement officials busy with?”

Eventually, there is a view that truly is mainly expressed in the form of remarks and allegories. The meaning of this view is as follows: yes, Arthur Vardanyan had weapons and was going to destroy the representatives of the “heated regime” with his group. Since he is a patriot young people dedicated to the nation and a “hero of the Syrian war” (in the aforementioned video he was promising to liberate Kessab), then he has the right to save us from the regime in this way. In other words, the proponents of this view believe that the loyalty, justice and democracy in Armenia will be established in this very way. It is also a view, though, in my opinion, quite an ISIS-like. But the representatives of this view should be consistent and similarly justify Nairi Hunanyan’s deeds, and importantly, express their views in direct form, without allegories.
