November 27,2015 17:00

Political activist David Shahnazaryan opines that no accidental publications appear in the Russian “Kommersant” online newspaper. Note that the Russian newspaper “Kommersant”, in one of its publications after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s visit to Armenia posted the following scenario, “By the Russian source standing close to the negotiations, one of the options of the peace plan that is currently being discussed is as follows: Armenians return Azerbaijan the control of the large part of the Azerbaijani territories around Karabakh occupied by Armenians by keeping the Lachin corridor, which provides the connection with Armenia and possibly one more.

Baku does not officially recognize Karabakh’s secession, however, according to the plan, it is obligated not to solve the issue by military means. This can be guaranteed by the deployment of the international peacekeeper (UN, OSCE) in the conflict zone, as well as demilitarization of the regions returned to Azerbaijan.”

In this respect, Mr. Shahnazaryan noted, “There’s a process that evolves at a rapid pace. It is the integration of Russia and Azerbaijan and it expansion in different sectors: starting from the energy sector and ending with the fact that Russia announces that it assumes defending Azerbaijan in all international instances”. Mr. Shahnazaryan noted that it is no secret to anyone that the Baku-Moscow talks also include the issue of Azerbaijan’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, about which the Azerbaijani officials have not refuted. Mr. Shahnazaryan believes that the most serious threat to stability and security in the South Caucasus is in Baku-Moscow relations. The political activist does not think that the aforementioned publication is a result of a caviar diplomacy.

To the observation of Aravot.am that the editor of the newspaper is an Azerbaijani, Davit Shahnazaryan responded, “So what? He was first and foremost a citizen of the Russian Federation. I can give names of Azeris in Russia, about whom the entire Azerbaijan publicly complains.” The Head of the Center for Regional Studies, Richard Giragosian, opines that the publication by the “Kommersant” is a balloon and pursued a goal to check the intentions. Regarding the purpose of Lavrov’s visit, he said, “It was more of a connection with the military situation in Syria.”

According to Mr. Giragosian, the Syria and the Turkish wedding is over. Putin and Erdoğan became personal enemies, and it is good for us. Back to the statement made by NKR President Bako Sahakyan following Lavrov’s visit that the airport in Stepanakert can be used for counter-terrorism purposes, Richard Giragosian noted, “President Bako Sahakyan’s tale was more dangerous than the reality. If the article in “Kommersant” is a balloon, this tale was much worse balloon. It is the result of our unprofessional diplomacy. The President Sahakyan sitting in Karabakh is a much bigger problem for the solution of the issue.”
