Being vigilant won’t do any harm

December 01,2015 11:34

Naturally, I am against paranoia and seeing foreign “spies” in every place. If someone is honest and openly expresses his views, then naming him an “American spy”, a “Russian KGB agent” or a “fifth column” speaks of this unhealthy psychology. Similarly, when any political or public figure is classified in the line with “internal Turks”.

On the other hand, it is clear that our country has foreign rivals as well as circles in friendly or “neutral” countries disposed hostile to our state, who have tried and will try to harm us by this-or-that actions. So far, we do not know who and where “October 27” was organized, although no one seems to doubt that the customers are from abroad. We also do not know why the “epic poetry expert” has ordered the “tile-masters” working in his house to shoot at the presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan. Here, too, I think that the “tails” should be sought outside Armenia.

Given all this, I think that especially in the case of national events (such as, of course, the referendum), not only our law enforcement officials but also the citizens should be vigilant. As vigilant as the woman working in the shop of Karvatchar who had paid attention to the man’s accent doing shopping. She had called the police and thanks to her, the Azeri subversives were identified.

But it was relatively easy to do, there can be diversions that are carried out by Armenians and the citizens of Armenia. And this would have the so-called “political” subtext. I put the word “political” in quotation marks because I specifically separate government-opposition political fight and the security of citizens and the state. Here, various politically-oriented figures and law enforcers should probably act together.

For 25 years, I hear talks about “beating up” or “shooting” (to some extent, I have experienced the “practical use” of these talks on me). It seems to me that true political and public figures should not “give a tone” to such talks, should not seek excuses for it (“what else should these poor people do”). Because just this creates a fertile ground for the forces outside Armenia, who are not interested in the people, the government and the opposition. Their task is completely different. And, by the way, it is not necessarily to have a government representative as their target, the attempted murder against Hayrikyan was the proof of it.

I do not know whether the Armenians living with their everyday concerns see it or not, but the situation around Armenia has been escalated. It would be wonderful, of course, if this tension is eased as soon as possible, but so far it seems there is no such tendency. This situation, it seems to me, requires special approaches from the government, the opposition, the law enforcers and all citizens.
