Aravot.am asked the well-known linguist, armenologist and active citizen David Gyurjinyan about his impressions from the referendum on constitutional amendments, the results and the developments in this context. “This referendum also passed. And this time too, the people’s voice was not audible. The firm “No” that they said became “Yes” with frauds, deceit, violence and corruption (this is evidenced by numerous videos, the testimonies of attendees to the voting and so on). We must also admit that “Yes” was formed because of the lack of specific civic stance and indifference of our compatriots, as well as because of the fear and servility by many people,” said Mr. Gyurjinyan. In his words, “In the government-people “struggle”, the people actually lost.
Actually, the government also defeated. The trust in it is fundamentally broken. Sentiments of disappointment, in some cases, inability and despair was observed after the referendum, but in my impression, it lasted very short. The Armenians that have “hardened” in the crucible of various elections, even began joking. Although what happened is not a humor. However, there is one joyful thing. Many people, among them also a large number of young people, have not yet lost their decisiveness. We know that there were even persistent young girls among those who hampered frauds. I am sure that these young people indeed will become more. It inspires us hope that nothing is yet lost.”
