Garik Marutyan, a resident of Armavir marz and Major of depot battalion accused of spying in favor of Azerbaijan was the head of the intelligence of a unit deployed in Noyemberyan region and defending the border with Azerbaijan prior to passing to depot battalion. According to his former so-soldiers, Major G. Marutyan was not compromised in any way during the years of his service, he behaved himself very modest. Photographs are posted on G. Marutyan’s Facebook page where he is photographed near the St. Hovhannes Church, village Koghb, Noyemberyan region, behind him you can see the view of the bordering Koghb village.
The statement issued by the RA National Security Service reads about G. Marutyan, “During the complex operative-investigative activities carried out by Armenia’s National Security Service, as a result of carried out operative information, Garik Kh. Marutyan (born in 1977), a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, a resident of Armavir marz, was arrested on December 4, 2015. Being engaged in the positions of a head of an investigation of different units of the Defense Ministry for many years, he contacted thru the Internet social sites with special Azerbaijani services operating in Turkey and has transferred information available to him at work for remuneration, including information containing state secrets. A criminal case was initiated under Part 1, Article 299 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia and G. Marutyan was accused of state treason. An investigation is underway.”
