On January 8, the Kentron and Nork-Marash Court of First Instance launched Zaven Mirijanyan’s trial for trying to bribe the member of the National Congress Party, Vardan Harutyunyan. The accusing prosecutor demanded a sentence of three years in prison against Mirijanyan, however, as the defendant, the latter will take the punishment with a conditional probation given the fact that there are three children under his care, one of which is a minor and his wife also has health problems. The witness Vardan Harutyunyan was not present at the court session.
Aravot.am asked Vardan Harutyunyan why he did not attend the court session, he replied that he was not been properly notified and he first time hears about the session being held. “I have not received a notice to be present at the court, in other words, I have not personally received and I was not in town at that time. And since I have not received a notice, I did not know that a court session has been scheduled, therefore, I have not attended.”
The prosecutor’s request was for Mirijanyan to be sentenced to three years in prison but to take the punishment by a conditional probation, Vardan Harutyunyan considers a charity by the government authorities to offer his services once again. “It means hampering the electoral process which is considered to be a dire crime according to our laws and legislations. It is a dire crime and issuing a conditional punishment during the dire crime is unacceptable, it shows how cowardice the regime is, they once again promote their servant to carry out their assignments.”
Note that Zaven Mirijanyan is under an accusation of hampering the free implementation of the RA citizens’ rights to the referendum of the Constitutional amendments to be held on December 6, 2015, and the powers of the member of precinct Commission of the referendum thru bribery.
