“Human Rights Defender Karen Andreasyan’s resignation could be several signals. On the one hand, some relations inside the authorities, on the other hand, it could be also international,” said Deputy Chairman of “Heritage” party Armen Martirosyan in an interview with Aravot.am. Note that yesterday, the RA Human Rights Defender Karen Andreasyan has submitted his resignation. On his Facebook page, he had thanked all his partners for the mutual work and expressed the hope that human rights protection will continue to remain the priority of our state and society.
To our observation that maybe pressure used on Karen Andreasyan personally, Mr. Martirosyan responded that even if this were true, it also fits in the logic of inside the authorities, “The Ombudsman Institute is not so much Armenian as a commitment under our responsibilities of the Council of Europe. This shows that there is no democratic circle in our country. Such a protected person who essentially should defend all is defenseless.”
