“We did not have to wait for Aliyev to say so because there will be no more than that as long as Aliyev exists. Aliyev is dissatisfied with the course of negotiations and the proposed solution. It is not the case that we as a Federation are excited about this solution but Aliyev is strongly against, for example, the principle of the right to self-determination and is trying to circumvent this process in every way in the PACE and other platforms” such opinion is expressed by the representative of the Office for the ARF Armenian Cause and Political Affairs, Giro Manoyan, in an interview with Aravot.am, referring to Aliyev’s statement during the meeting of Serzh Sargsyan and Aliyev in Bern.
Note that the President of Azerbaijan referring to this meeting has stated that it was formal. As said by Giro Manoyan, we could expect from Aliyev not to participate in the meeting but he did not do it either. “He did not even have the courage for it because he would be accused. But in every case, he is accused for he is against the initiatives to establish mutual confidence, he is against all practical offers. His latest statement shows that he is unhappy with the meeting in reality as he did not get any results from this meeting. It’s not normal that he describes this meeting as formal. It would be normal if we had described it as formal. And when he says so, as a participant, a role-player, it is already cynicism. I think he shows that he is not serious in this matter at all. It is necessary for the international community to demonstrate a critical posture. For example, they should show that one way or another, they will recognize the independence of Karabakh if Azerbaijan continues behaving like that. If we keep working like this, and the international community makes Azerbaijan understand that everything has its limits and they should not arbitrarily delay this issue for decades, eventually, there will be a result.”
