Petrosyan, a much loved actor in Armenia and the Diaspora who is also known for his politically charged satirical performances, was taken into custody in November 2013 after two were killed and four people were injured in a road accident involving him as a driver.
Petrosyan was badly injured himself and his health deteriorated during the course of the trial but was denied hospitalization.
He was sentenced to five years in prison on January 2015. Many believed the decision to keep him in jail was retribution for his participation in 2013 post-election opposition protests.
Vardan Petrosay is currently serving the rest of his sentence in an open regime.
