Serzh Sargsyan’s Cryptic Answer to Seda Aznavour

January 25,2016 21:15

On January 17, Charles Aznavour’s daughter, Seda Aznavour asked the Armenian President to set Vardan Petrosyan free. In her open letter to the Armenian President, she had said, “Since you are friends with my famous father, who is so involved with the welfare of Armenia, you could make his daughter SEDA happy and Free Vartan Petrosyan, Don’t you think he paid his dues? “

Less than a week later, Vigen Sargsyan, chief of Staff to the President of the Republic of Armenian, took to Facebook to pass on Serzh Sargsyan’s answer to the singer.

Addressing Seda Aznavour has a cherished friend, Serzh Sargsyan assured that he “pins great hopes on Vartan Petrosyan to find the strength and help [them] go through the intricacies of the pardoning process”, which would lead to the expeditious settlement of the issue.

In her turn, Seda Aznavour has written, “I believe he truly is trying to make things right. I have great Hope. Let’s all cross our fingers”.

Petrosyan, a much loved actor in Armenia and the Diaspora who is also known for his politically charged satirical performances, was taken into custody in November 2013 after two were killed and four people were injured in a road accident involving him as a driver.

Petrosyan was badly injured himself and his health deteriorated during the course of the trial but was denied hospitalization.

He was sentenced to five years in prison on January 2015. Many believed the decision to keep him in jail was retribution for his participation in 2013 post-election opposition protests.

Vardan Petrosay is currently serving the rest of his sentence in an open regime.
