Hermine Naghdalyan explains why they could not prevent the adoption of the report on the Sarsang reservoir

January 28,2016 14:00

“The majority PACE parliamentarians, however, saw the main problem: Walter’s report and considered it such a major and agenda issue that first of all they gave a solution to it. The Sarsang report was viewed as a social, water, sectoral and humanitarian problem and, in this sense, the Europeans seem to be a little loyal,” so responded the Head of the Armenian delegation to PACE, Hermine Naghdalyan, in response to the question of Aravot.am of whether it was not possible to prevent also the non-Armenophile report by the Bosnia rapporteur Milica Marković with the heading of “Inhabitants of frontier regions of Azerbaijan are deliberately deprived of water” at the plenary session of the PACE winter session.

To our observation that, in fact, Azerbaijan achieved its main goal, the report was adopted with some changes but not Armenophile wordings, like “The Assembly condemns the occupation of other adjacent territories of Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan by Armenia”, “The Assembly demands immediate withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the given territory”, are not changed, Ms. Naghdalyan responded, “Azerbaijan has received these terms from this structure much earlier. I do not think that formulating this issue especially for them was their main purpose. Azerbaijan has received these formulations much earlier in other documents, especially in the reports on not social and humanitarian issues but on more radical problems.”
