Today, the Court of the First Instance of Nor-Nork Administrative District fined Anahit Atayan, a teacher of computer sciences of No. 104 Secondary School, accused of election fraud, by 600 thousand AMD. Anahit Atayan is accused of committing a double voting on the day of referendum. It is not the first time that the court hearings of electoral frauds end by monetary fine.
In an interview with Aravot.am, the Director of the Helsinki Association Vanadzor office, Artur Sakunts, in response to our observation that one of these electoral frauds, according to his “principles”, has committed the fraud for the sake of “Yes”, so what similar reasoning is caused by, Mr. Sakunts said, “The problem is that such ridiculous reasoning, within its boundaries, when it is limited, then it is not compared to the denial of the reasoning by other remaining cases, when it is inevitable to come to the following conclusion, either all the election frauds have the same principle – to forge for the sake of “Yes” as no one will rig for “No”, or, on the other hand, they show similar behavior that you cannot but come to the conclusion that it was an organized event.”
As Artur Sakunts said, based on the number of criminal cases, they were forced to file them to show that allegedly we have appropriate will to respond to the electoral frauds. “They forget one thing, in the case of this number (we are talking about more than 70 filed criminal cases), at least, a question should arise with the preliminary investigation body and its legality supervising prosecutor’s, well, how it happens that people in different polling stations all of a sudden have decided to commit these violations, what was their benefit and goal, and what was it stipulated by,” noted Mr. Sakunts. In his words, this speaks of an organized nature of concealing the crime, in other words, the accuser organizes himself, does it alone and, of course, is by sponsoring. He sponsors not only the election violators but also the whole process of concealing the crime.
According to Sakunts, such crimes indicate that once again the principle of responsibility is violated and similar attitude to the perpetrators morally spoil the society, “that it is possible to do an election fraud and remain unpunished because such punishments by the court are disproportionate to the violations and the content of the crimes, whose public and state significance is much more than the 600 thousand drams. We are dealing with the practice of encouraging the crime”.
