“What is the salary of the teacher that he agreed to the fine of 600 thousand AMD?” said the Head of the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Office, Artur Sakunts, in an interview with a journalist of Aravot.am. According to him, this means that she has guarantors to pay this amount. “Is he going to pay with her salary, or he is going to borrow money, or get a loan. Who are these guarantors who have told him, “Don’t worry, we will reimburse this 600 thousand drams.” The investigation bodies should have duly followed these questions,” said Mr. Sakunts, adding that he has reasonable suspicion to argue that those who give a guarantee will simultaneously be the guarantors of paying this fine.
Today, the Court of the First Instance of Nor-Nork Administrative District fined Anahit Atayan, a teacher of computer sciences of No. 104 Secondary School, accused of election fraud, by 600 thousand AMD. Anahit Atayan is accused of committing a double voting on the day of the referendum. It is not the first time that the court hearings of electoral frauds end by monetary fine. During the previous court hearing, Atayan had demanded to use a speedy trial. The teacher has also submitted a motion to ban the video-recording arguing that it could undermine her reputation. The court granted the motions.
Artur Sakunts noted that this is the problem – once again a punishment is administered against the election fraud committing person in the form of monetary fines, but it is more important to understand the following that once again the motive of the crime was not disclosed, “In different polling stations, both by the committee members, individual citizens and the proxies, and especially by the members of the electoral commission, no such violations with surprisingly criminal case were constantly committed, and the following question was not disclosed: what motivated this person? What is her personal benefit, or the reason in her vision, for which she did it,” said Artur Sakunts, adding that we cannot consider the crime disclosed without identifying the motive.
