Head of the UNESCO Chair of the History and Theory of the Armenian Art at the Yerevan State University, Professor Levon Chookaszian, recently, is selected a member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Montpellier (France). This is the first time that an Armenian scientist has this honor. In an interview with Aravot.am, Mr. Chookaszian noted that last year, he was selected a member of the Academy of Ambrosiana in Milan.  Incidentally, Armenia’s National Academy of Humanities has no member who is a member of two foreign academies. Incidentally, Levon Chookaszian is not a member of the Academy of Sciences of Armenia. He informed that the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Montpellier is a scientific company, which was established in 1846 and is the continuation of the Royal Society of Sciences in Montpellier.

The latter was established in 1706 by the ordinance of King Louis XIV, as a branch of the Academy of Paris. “The members of the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Montpellier are the renowned scientists who know French and can deliver a report in French at the Academy sessions. This Academy has 90 full, 20 honoraries and 42 associate members. All full members of the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Montpellier are French. Among them is a former professor of Paul Valery University in Montpellier, Armenologist Gérard Dédéyan, who is a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia. All honorary members of the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Montpellier are also French. Among the correspondent members, in addition to French, there are Belgian, Italian, Swiss, Moroccan, Serbs, Lebanese, and Polish scientists representing different branches of science,” said Mr. Chookaszian.
