Sad story of alliances

February 18,2016 15:06

Participants of political processes usually rely on their bitter experience

People in their imaginations about the life are guided by the models, which they have seen and used. When a two years old child (who has not attended a kindergarten yet) communicating with people uses the phrase “hey, beast”, one can argue by 100% accuracy that he has heard this phrase in his family. Those who were calling the responsible persons to their office for every semi-oppositional TV broadcast and are giving a “stick”, naturally they should assume that even now everything is being done by the “calls from the above”.

The same for the alliances and coalitions. Those who were members of any opposition or pro-government alliance or coalition, especially, those who were the “architects” of such cooperation, are frustrated and resentful by this process, and accordingly, they do not expect anything good. Indeed, if we recall, let’s say, the “Republic” union in 1995, then it can be stated that the then Defense Minister Vazgen Sargsyan’s one “anti-Levon” speech in the fall of 1997 was sufficient, and the union collapsed very quickly. The “Unity” alliance winning in the next parliamentary elections split after “October 27”, the APP went to the opposition, RPA remained in power and is in the same status until now. After that, the RPA-PAP-ARF-RoL quartet gradually became a trio, then a duet and then a solo.

The same for the opposition alliances. The “National Concord” alliance, whose current ardent Democrats have not registered before the parliamentary elections in 1995, collapsed very quickly. Next, the secretary of “Justice” opposition alliance, Viktor Dallakyan, was excitedly telling the public how much Serzh Sargsyan is putting on the “cone” but now he enjoys working in the presidential staff. The ANC-PAP-ARF-“Heritage” wonderful quartet became a trio and one year ago, it ceased to exist as a result of the president’s speech. The ANC was also an alliance but out of 18 parties, now, there is only one left with strongly person-centered structure.

It is clear that now when the RPA-ARF cooperation is outlined, all those who have ever been in an alliance, are recalling what has happened to them and recall also the inducements of joining these alliances and the withdrawal, and make conclusions based on this bitter experience. Indeed, the alliances (especially, pro-government) seem to be created for spoiling political parties. It is clear that now, the “most innocuous” task is to make the ARF a target and talk about “being sold” and “trough”.

Not excluding the material interest by some ARF figures (especially, since some of them up to now, to put it mildly, were not left hungry), let us consider the question from purely political dimensions. Which is “more honest spiritually”: to announce about the imminent change of power, the inevitable collapse of the regime, a fiery spring or autumn, take people for a tour around the center of Yerevan and announce that the revolution has begun, then once again to be broke and complain, or to try to implement your own goals in the power? In both cases, there is an element of dissimulation and hypocrisy. But to say that one is a heroism and the other – treason, it would be even an exaggeration.

Incidentally, the Federation also, as it is seen from its name, was an alliance, a federation.
