“Armenia just like the United Kingdom has joined the international, including the UN various treaties and commitments. We understand which they are. We consider the human rights defense institute very important for any country, including Armenia,” said the Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom (UK) to the Republic of Armenia, Judith Farnworth, in an interview with Aravot.am, referring to the establishment of the Institute of Human Rights in Armenia. Before the resignation of Karen Andreasyan, Farnworth noted that the Great Britain closely follows the activities of the Ombudsman of Armenia in human rights sphere.
“I and my preceding ambassadors have closely cooperated with the RA Ombudsman and I am ready to continue this cooperation,” said the Ambassador, adding that one of the most effective mechanisms for assessing the state of human rights in Armenia is the Universal Periodic Review implemented in the framework of the UN, “This Review indicates the problems related to human rights. The same is done for Armenia.” Note that the candidacy for the Human Rights – RPA candidate Arman Tatoyan – will be presented at the NA plenary session for discussion. Today, Ambassador Farnworth attended the opening of the 14th Festival of British Film.
