There are streets in touristic Dilijan named after Kalinin, Myasnikyan, Kamo and Maxim Gorky. Mikhail Kalinin who was called an “all-Union old man”, according to his biographers, was a pedophile. Kamo (Simon Ter-Petrosyan) was fanatically devoted to the revolution, he was a terrorist and has carried out numerous terrorist acts. We asked the Mayor of Dilijan, Armen Santrosyan, why they do not change the Street names Kalinin and Kamo.
The Mayor said that after renaming the streets, the notes on the place of residence in the passports of Dilijan residents living in the houses of the mentioned streets, as well as the documents of the customers on electricity fees, gas and water supply, and the ownership certificates of the people who have real estate in these streets should also be changed. And the cost of getting a new certificate of ownership is about AMD 40 thousand. In the city of Noyemberyan, Tavush marz, there are streets called November 29, 26 Commissars. The name Noyemberyan was given to the bordering residences with regard to invasion of the 11th Red Army to Ijevan from Azerbaijan on November 29, 1920. In the second half of the 1990s, an attempt was made to change the name of the city of November but the Noyemberyan residents thinking that the improvement of their social conditions is essential than the name of the street boycotted the local referendum.
