Hambardzum Yeghiazaryan accuses Sedrak Achemyan
“Sedrak Achemyan has never been the bearer of Hunchak ideology and has not professed the ideology that was founded by our elders in 1887. Sedrak Achemyan has always used Hunchak party to serve his own interests and business objectives. Generally, none of his ideas was associated with politics or the reinforcement of the interests of the country and the state after the independence of Armenia in 1991,” said the representative of Reorganized Social Democrat Hunchakian Party, Hambardzum Yeghiazaryan, in an interview with “Aravot”, referring to the recent clamorous story raised around the Social-Democratic Hunchak Party.
Note that SDHP CC Chairman Hakob Tigranyan’s and Secretary Hambik Sarafyan’s compiled No. 16/20-2016 Circular addressed to the heads of the regional units of the Party – the structures of the Party operating in Diaspora. There is a clause in this top-secret circular to the process of moving the ashes of 20 Hunchak members, Paramaz and his friends, hung up at the Sultan Bayazit Square, Constantinople, in 1915, and re-burying in Yerablur, Armenia. “An issue of 20 ashes – Noting that various disagreements will still continue to be circulating on this matter, we decided to convey the official information of the Central Committee to you. Indeed, last year, a number of party and non-party individuals led by comrade Sedrak Achemyan and a number of female friends from Armenia, willfully, without the awareness and permission of the Central Committee initiated allegedly the transportation of remnants of 20 people to the homeland. Again, without the awareness of the Central Committee, they established a telephone connection with individual friends in the regions offering them to join a “Committee” which allegedly was established for this purpose. One day, the Central Committee warned these friends to stay away from the issue of transporting the remnants of our heroes, based on personal accounts, making a subject of speculation, especially when the Central Committee had officially applied to the Turkish state bodies regarding the remnants. In response to this warning, these friends asked time from the Central Committee assuring that the deal is very close to its end and the relics will soon arrive in Armenia. The Central Committee, taking the speculations already found in the Armenian press, decided not to make any statement or a step unless the circumstances become fully clear. The mentioned “Relics” arrived in Armenia in the form of one complete skeleton but the examination initiated by the Central Committee detected that the skeleton has no relationship with the ashes of our twenty heroes but just ashes of a symbolic and unknown person from Edirne Tapu cemetery. Thanks to modest and prudent actions of the Central Committee, this greatest disgrace was possible to keep away from the public and the press pages. The Central Committee, in its plenary session by special agenda, discussed its Board Member Sedrak Achemyan’s responsibility in this adventurism and made an appropriate administrative decision,” says the circular. Hambardzum Yeghiazaryan considers this a disgrace, “It’s just a shame to build a recognition of your one person on people, history and corpse. To be able to strengthen their positions in the Central Committee, people are even ready to jump over the shrines. This top-secret called document actually reveals the true picture of pan-Hunchak family.”
We asked Hambardzum Yeghiazaryan whether he is aware that the question of Sedrak Achemyan’s withdrawal from the Central Commission may be raised in the future, especially after this incident. “We communicate with SDHP CC members or with the Hunchak family members in very limited and purely friendly realm. According to the RA legislation, any party shall hold a congress no later than once in two years. But these people do not even respect the RA laws and want to hold a congress once in every four years. Anyway. As to whether they will conduct a congress and what issues will be discussed, time will show,” said our interlocutor, adding that Sedrak Achemyan and SDHP Chairman Narek Galstyan are now traveling in Europe, trying to obtain the consent of six Hunchak regions about not to convene a congress planned for September 2017. “Otherwise, it would be their end,” opines Hambardzum Yeghiazaryan.
