Stalinism is not dead, Stalinism is alive throughout the entire territory of the former USSR. To be honest to the end, “Stalinism” is typical of any government by some portion because the purposes its representatives is to “remain in the chairs” and as to what they are doing for it, depends not on the powers to be “kind” or “evil” but on how the political system and the society is. But only the leaders in totalitarian and post-totalitarian countries are so trembling on their seats that are barely able to think about other things, it is only in such countries that the society has no “immunity” against “Stalinism” and vice versa, the majority present its dreams in the following way: “I wish there were a patriot man to hit his fist on the table to fix everything.” Hitting the “fist on the table” for 25 years works but not for “fixing”.
Certainly, changing this mentality is an incredibly difficult task. But there are some symbols that giving them up gradually leads to this change, and the fact how the society attaches importance to these symbols is a wonderful “test” to what extent the county is ready for these transformations. After 1945, the Germans carried out a “denazification”, our people have not for carried out a “denazification”, neither in 1956 nor in 1991, Russia’s current leader, in recent years, is more and more often talking with “Stalin resolutions”. If we talk about the symbols, then I am sure that the Russia where the embalmed corpse of a statesman is not kept in the mausoleum and on display (it does not matter whether he is a “positive” or a “negative” hero), it would be completely a different Russia.
Likewise (don’t be surprised), if there are no honored and national artists, painters, builders or hairdressers in Armenia, it would be a different Armenia. We must go not by the path that, you know, let’s say, the “gas people” are offended why there is no “honored gas maintenance man”, let’s be kind to them, but just the opposite – to eliminate these titles with one law which should say that all former titles no longer have any official meaning. This will mean that the state gives up defining a discriminatory approach among people of any specialty – fondling with some of them and pushing others away, by “entering” the one into the first class and the other one to the second class. Thus, these people will live more in peace and harmony, will not compete to cringe the authorities to deserve their favor.
While, the public, naturally, can define any award or title. One group likes rabiz singer, he creates, lets’ say, an “Association of rabiz music lovers” and glorifies their idol. Or, I and my friends like “car repairing” craftsman’s work, we create a club of his fans and grant him the title of an “honored car-repairman”.
