“Today, our consent to hold a monitoring in the line of contact between Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijani armed forces was conveyed through the Office of the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office,” stated NKR Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ani Sargsyan. Political analyst Styopa Safaryan, in a telephone conversation with Aravot.am, commented that this stems from the interests of Armenia, “We all saw why Azerbaijan was opposing to the creation of the mechanism for the monitoring group, to the establishment of a mechanism to investigate the incidents because after the overt invasion on April 2, even Azerbaijan, including its supporting Turkey, are trying to present that the attacker was Armenia and no matter this fact was clear to many people, however, there are two questions: who did this, and why at this moment.”
In his words, consequently, I must be clear for us that Azerbaijan evaded the establishment of such a mechanism until now to avoid also the responsibility, “If we do not want to allow this and to have opportunities for the prevention of early response, in other words, accumulation of armed forces, mobility, ceasefire and so on, indeed, the establishment of such a mechanism is imperative. Especially when it comes to saving hundreds of lives from both sides,” noted the analyst and added that the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia do not have any interest in breaking the ceasefire regime, naturally, the NKR official posture must be welcomed and I welcome it in this regard.
