“Armenia along with Zimbabwe, North Korea and a few semi-barbaric countries voted in favor of the occupation of the Crimea. Then, Artsakh decided to mark the celebration as a sign of solidarity with Russia on the occasion of the occupation of Crimea. Moreover, at the same time, a war was going on in eastern Ukraine, it was already clear then that if our government authorities are so short-sighted and will-less that appeared in the same camp with North Korea by expressing their commitment to the Russian dictator, time will come when we will get a very bitter response. And Poroshenko’s statement is just one of those moments,” said filmmaker Tigran Khzmalyan, referring to the statement of the President of Ukraine Poroshenko, “to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan within internationally recognized borders”.
According to him, “Crimea’s occupation and liberation of Artsakh are completely different things, putting these two examples on the same is the greatest political mistake. No Russian in Crimea was exposed to violence, assimilation politics, destroyed, killed or exiled from the country while Artsakh is fighting for decades against such pressures. In so doing, the RA authorities and their followed NKR authorities devaluated our whole fight. So, I think that Poroshenko’s statement can be viewed as a logical consequence of Armenia’s move as such.
We must work with Ukraine because Georgia and Ukraine are the key strategic axis for Armenia and all the world that connects the East with the West, especially now when Iran was lifted from the sanctions. Europe is connected with Iran thru Georgia, Ukraine and Armenia and thru Iran already with the Middle East. In this context, viewing Poroshenko’s statement separately is a naïve. Politics is a connection of interrelated actions, causes and consequences.”
