Parliamentarian Edmon Marukyan, also a member of the Armenia-Israel Friendship Group, sent a letter to the President of the Israeli Knesset and Prime Minister demanding to stop selling weapons to Azerbaijan. Note that on March 31, Israel has provided its anti-tank laser missiles to Azerbaijan. In addition to Israel, the parliamentarian has sent a letter to the Russian President, Prime Minister and Speaker of the State Duma. “I have sent letters to all of them reasoning from the international law perspective that if are selling weapons to a country that commits war crimes and until now they did not know that they were going to or can conduct war crimes, now, you know it. If henceforth they continue selling, they will also become countries contributing to these crimes. Therefore, they need to suspend the signed treaties and stop using even sold weapons,” said Mr. Marukyan. The parliamentarian recalled that once Putin used to criticize Ukraine for selling weapons to Georgia that can be used against Russian itself, “Putin mentioned that it is a crime. It turns out that if weapon is sold to someone against Russia, it is a crime but when Russia is selling, it is not a crime. Naturally, our demands from Russia are more than from Israel because in the case of Israel we do not have a strategic partnership. Israel does not have a military base in Armenia, there is nothing to compare.”
As Mr. Marukyan said, the RA Foreign Ministry should also submit clear claims on the sale of arms to Azerbaijan, “Our Foreign Ministry should have sent a note to Russia and Israel and other states, which have military cooperation with Azerbaijan, and raise these issues. I also study the issue of Belarus, not only as an EaEU ally country but also as a CSTO country. The same issues must be presented to Belarus demanding not to sell weapons because these weapons are used for war crimes against their ally state.”
