George Clooney. I hope that the TV news programs will focus more on global issues than elections

April 25,2016 18:00

“We are insensitive to violence,” noted actor George Clooney at the second global forum on “Against the Crime of Genocide”, on April 23. He noted that nowadays, the 24 -hour news release forms insensitive audience, it becomes simply a matter of numbers, when for example you hear about six million refugees, it’s just a number. The actor highlighted the individual stories, for example, the photo of a Syrian refugee child, who made the issue a key. “Then, you realize that the UN has not worked enough. It is horrible how we respond to the crisis.

We lose our humanitarian vision when we watch stories with large numbers. When you hear on television that five hundred people have died, you change the channel and pass to other news. We need to talk about one person who has tried to save a few people,” said George Clooney. He suggested covering other things, “My father was a man of news, I feel respect for the news. However, the news does not tell about Syrian refugees, sometimes, they talk about the Islamic state, but when we switch to the CNN, we see an empty tribune and we are waiting for Trump to speak. Can we use the time when Trump approaches the podium to covering a story about a family? I hope that thus we as a movie and TV production community will focus on more global issues than  elections.”
