Aravot.am had reported earlier that the “New Age” dance ensemble operating in Armenia was taking part in the 5th Dance Olympiad Armenia in October last year, later in the Sochi “Sports, art and dance games” international competition, where the ensemble soloist, the world champion of the XIIth World Dance Olympiad, a 12-year-old Garik Petrosyan and another solo dancer Laura Margaryan were the winners in two nominations. Recently, the ensemble recorded its next achievement. The Director and choreographer of “New Age”, Mher Petrosyan, in an interview with Aravot.am, told that for showing high results in the mentioned dance competition, the ensemble got the chance to take part in the VI Georgian Dance Olympiad.
“Four more groups in a variety of dance directions were involved from Armenia. The “New Age” ensemble was presenting the folk dances. Over 15 countries were participating in the Olympiad, including Azerbaijan. The referee staff consisted of representatives from Armenia, Georgia, Slovenia, Belarus, Turkey, and Azerbaijan and was headed by President of All Russian Dance Organization – IDO member, Andrey Kokoulin, who is the Russia’s representative. The “New Age” performed 10 dances. Garik Petrosyan was dancing in “duet” category. The fight was pretty tense. Our dancers knew that Azerbaijan is also involved, therefore, they were determined. During the awards ceremony, everyone was impatiently waiting for the results. And now, in the category of “folk dances” our different aged groups exceeded Azerbaijanis groups and all our 10 dances were recognized winners and won the first place. One by one standing on the first winner’s platform our children raised the Armenian tricolor in Georgia. They were so proud and excited,” told Mher Petrosyan.

He also informed that the young dancers have dedicated their 10 victories to our brave soldiers who died on the border of Artsakh defending the borders. It is noteworthy to mention that the Azerbaijani dancers had tried to hamper the performance of the Armenian ensemble. “During the dancing of our children, they were yelling and making noise to interfere, but our children were not in a panic, on the contrary, they were more consolidated and once again proved that Armenians are a dancing nation,” said Mher Petrosyan. He said that the Azerbaijani side once again has resorted to a cultural misappropriation by dancing under Ara Gevorgyan’s “Artsakh” dance. By the way, as mentioned by Mher Petrosyan, by the appeal of the head of the Armenian delegation, Artashes Mesrobyan, Azerbaijani dancers were disqualified. To add that in the near future, the “New Age” will attend in the XIII World Dance Olympiad in Moscow. Note that the current champion of the Olympiad is Garik Petrosyan.
