Vanadzor boxer starts to train for the WBC world championship belt in Tsakhkadzor

Vic Darchinyan, a winner of the title of world champion in three weight categories and the title of absolute world champion in the bantamweight, is getting ready to win the fourth 55.5 kg weight class. He also intends to combine the belts in this weight category too. The next competitor will be Mexican Hugo Ruiz, a WBC World champion. The fight will take place on July 2 or 9 in the United States. On arriving in Armenia, Vic gave an exclusive interview to “Aravot”.

– Vakhtang, you have passed an exclusive way in sports and have reached such heights about which many professional boxers did not even dare dreaming about. But as it appears, you have no intention to stop.

– I have won the world belt in three weight categories, I had been an absolute champion, in general, I won eight championship belts. Few boxers in the world have achieved so much. You are right. It is a dream for many-many people. I want to win the title in fourth weight category and then combine all the belts in one year and become an absolute champion here too. If I am successful, I will be the only boxer in the history who is an absolute champion in two weight categories. If I am successful, it will be good, if not, one year later I will say good-bye to the active boxing.

– In fact, approximately two months are left for the responsible fight and instead of getting trained you have come to Armenia.

– Mainly, that is my purpose to come to Armenia. I will spend about two weeks to raise my physical training in Tsakhkadzor and then I will leave for the USA where I will spend the last phase of my training.

– Have you studies your opponent?

– Certainly. He is taller than I am. The physical data are not bad, but he has great kicks, especially the right uprights. After all, he is a world champion.

– How do you assess your chances?

– I love having taller opponents. Ruiz is a suitable opponent for me. I think I must win by KO.

– Who is going to train you?

– Edmond Tarverdyan will be my coach in the US (he is also Ronda Jean Rousey’s coach – A.H.). Everything has already been agreed and elaborated. I am going to have training competitors there who rank the top-ten.

– On the April four-day war, you called me on the phone from Australia. You were worried and conveyed your support to the Armenian soldiers through Aravot.am urging them to keep the winning spirit high. Now, you are here.

– Usually, for a professional athlete, the primary thing is his work. But I am an Armenian, and I cannot bypass it. After the training in Tsaghkadzor, I definitely want to go to Artsakh, met our fellow citizens, our hero soldiers, to inspire them and say that we all are with them. And only after then to go to the US. I am confident that the final victory will be ours.
