Hassan Burgujuoghlu, a member of Altona City Council, with members of the German Left Party, is in Yerevan. On May 19, at the press conference held in “Noyan Tapan”, he said that it is his second visit to Armenia. The Turkish politician called deputy of Bundestag Ulla Jelpke who has arrived with him an engine for the recognition of the Armenian genocide in Bundestag.
Then he noted that the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Bundestag is very important for the Kurds and Circassians living in Germany and will have a greater impact in Germany than all may think. “I hope that one day Turkey will come to senses and will recognize the Armenian Genocide in Western Armenia and will definitely compensate. Namely, I attach great importance to the visit of the Turkish man to Armenia and the coverage of these issues, I want the generations to be aware of and be able to continue to live with each other,” – said Hassan Burgujuoghlu.
He stated that it has been few years since the Genocide Day is marked in Turkey, a small group of Turkish progressive intellectuals gathers in Taksim Square in Istanbul on April 24. “The process has commenced, and there is no way back anymore, I just want the Armenian people to be able to accept our apology, which would be a lengthy process.” The Turkish politician also voiced the genocide committed by Turkey against Pontos Greeks and other national minorities.
